MUMBAI: First Mulund and now Kurla residents have now flagged discrepancies in the draft electoral rolls published ahead of the BMC elections scheduled to be held in January, 2026.

According to a Times of India report, RTI activist and Kurla resident Anil Galgali alleged that 6,834 voters in Kurla’s L Ward were wrongly listed under Ward 163 instead of Ward 162. In a letter to the L Ward assistant commissioner, Galgali said the error occurred due to the recent delimitation exercise, resulting in 6,834 voters being incorrectly mapped to Ward 163 despite geographically falling within Ward 162. He warned that such large-scale misclassification might affect the accuracy and fairness of the upcoming elections and
demanded that all affected voters be immediately transferred to the correct ward.

The BMC, however, in its reply said that it has already launched a door-to-door verification drive to identify and rectify duplicate names in the draft voter list. The civic body also said that official communication will soon be sent to chairpersons and secretaries of housing societies to ensure compliance with the changes. The voter list scrutiny is part of the broader preparations ahead of the BMC elections. The civic body has appealed to citizens and housing societies to cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and election staff visiting homes for the door-to-door verification exercise.
